TV Moms

A Mother's Day Tribute List.

The TV Mom has been a staple character since the beginning of television. With Mother's Day right around the corner let's take a moment to recall our favorite TV Moms.

My List:

1. Carol Brady/The Brady Bunch-I'm totally serious when I say I think Carol was hotter than Marsha.

2. Lucy/I Love Lucy-About as funny as a mom can get.

3. Marge Simpson/The Simpsons-A beehive hair-do with a gambling problem, perfect.

4. Carmela Soprano/The Sopranos-What a terrific actress and complex character.

5. Estelle Costanza/Seinfeld-Another hilarious lady. At times reminds me of my grandma.

What's your Top Five?

Mom's Top Five List in No Order:

1. Loralai Gilmore-Gilmore Girls
A Hot Mamma for sure. I love her ramblings and the crazy things she says. Plus a great relationship with Rory, untraditional but it works for them. They have great dialogs.
2. Katie Sagal-Married with Children. The Diva mom I always aspired to be.
3. Sophia-Golden Girls
I hope I have that much spunk when I'm her age. Love the purse.
4. Bob Saget-Full House. He was a great Mr. Mom (with help from Joey and Jesse). I still love those Olsen Twins.
5. Marian Cunningham-Happy Days
Any Mom who could get the Fonz to have a crush on her must have been the hottest mom ever. Plus we knew she got Friskie with Howard.

1. Roseanne---she stole every bit of her style from my Mom and Aunt Martha.
2. Nancy Botwin-- of Weeds, played by Mary Louise Parker---speaking of hot Mommas. And hey---a girl's got to do what it takes to keep food on the table. So much irony, you've just gotta love it.
3. Esther Rolle--"Good Times" played by Florence Evans. Ain't nobody slick enough to pull a fast one on this Momma.
4. Alice-- "Alice" played by Linda Lavin. She was just going to do what it took and mostly ended up on the high road, as well.
5. Mr. French -- "Family Affair" played by Sebastian Cabot. Talk about a reluctant parental experience. And with a playboy Uncle Bill playing the Dad role, Mr. F had his hands more full than they needed to be.

Mostly gritty ladies, eh?

In no particular order:

Marge Simpson - Great Mom. Always bails Bart out of trouble. Have you seen her with her hair down? Nice.
Kitty Forman - A loving 70's mom with a slight drinking problem and a nervous laugh.
Lucille Bluth - Not really a mom I would like to have. But when it got tough you could count on her.
Estelle Costanza - A loving mom, however very scary. But when you have to live with Frank,it's not going to be easy.
Marie Barone - Loves her sons. Likes to cook. I once told my mom that Marie Barone reminded me of her. I got slapped. Seriously..

1. Debra Barone - Everybody Loves Raymond- My favorite mom of all- The past few years when I was dying to have a baby I was hooked on this show and this mom who couldn't cook but always put her kids first and looked great.

2. Claire Huxtable- The Cosby Show - another great mom. I lived for Thursday night.

3. Jamie Buckman - Mad About You- I watched this show for the many years I was dying to fall in love and get married. I wanted to be Jamie and Paul. I may be a little Jamie, but Lyman is no Paul. I'll keep him anyway.

4. Tony Danza- Who's the Boss?- This "mom" did it all. I love a man who vacuums.

5. Nancy Botwin - Weeds- I haven't watched a lot of TV shows in the past 3 years (thanks to my master's degree, recent baby and no TiVo) but I never missed an episode to watch this complex character unravel.

1. Caroline Ingalls - Little House on the Prairie - She always knew just what to say with loving kindness and could be stern when needed.

2. Carmella Soprano - Sopranos - She always seems to have it together even though her husband kills people for a living.

3. Elise Keaton - Family Ties - She was so pretty and free spirited.

4. Mrs. Cartman - South Park - She's not really a good mom, but anyone who can put up with Cartman is pretty special.

5. Miss Ellie - Dallas - She had the most class of the whole family and the whole show.

I realized I had left out Kitty Forman recently. I'd probably bump Mr. French and move Kitty up to number 3.
